THEME: Animals

LEVEL: Elementary (1st form)

OBJECTIVES:  pupils will:
-         learn new words;
-         develop their communicating skills,
-         revise their daily routing;
-         learn to describe the weather;
-         practice to work in pairs and in a group


SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS: computer, songs “Daily routine”, “Animals”,  PowerPoint Presentation “What is the weather like today?”, song “Head and shoulders”, pictures of animals, a book “Play and Read”


                                             PROCEDURE
1.     Greeting
Good morning dear pupils! I’m glad to see you. How are you today?
(The pupils answer using their gestures)
-         I’m fine!                      -I’m happy!         - I’m cold!
-         I’m great!                    - I’m sad!             - I’m hot!
-         I’m okay!                    - I’m hungry!    
-         I’m bad!                      - I’m thirsty!
Let’s work in pairs. Ask each other how are you.
2.     Warming-up. (a fairy-tale “Magic sounds”)
3.     Singing of the song “Daily routine!”
Please repeat after me: - I wake up, I wash my face, I brush my teeth, I comb my hair, I go to school.
So pupils, what do you do in the morning. (They rise their hands and answer: I wake up, I go to school, etc)
4.     Teacher: And now we are going to describe the weather. (watching of the presentation “It’s rainy!”) Look at the window! What is the weather like today? Is it rainy? Is it cloudy? Is it windy? Is it snowy? Is it cold?
5.     Teacher: let’s move a little. (Song “Head, shoulders, knees and toes)
6.     Introduction of new words (Song and the pictures with the names of animals)
7.     Game “What is missing” (There are the pictures of animals on the blackboard)
Teacher: class,  go to sleep! ( Children close their eyes. While they are sleeping, the teacher takes one card away.)
Teacher: wake up! So, what is missing?
8.     Game “Hot seat” (One of the pupils stands in the middle of the classroom. Other children help him/her to guess what the picture is. If the answer is right, the class clap their hands, if the answer is wrong, they stamp their feet.)
9.     A team game “We are the cleverest”
Teacher: We are going to have two teams, the team of tigers and the team of lions (Children choose the name of the team. Teacher shows the card with an animal. One right answer  is a point.)
10.                       Singing of the song “Animals”
11.                       Summing-up. You were very active today…..please, draw your favourite animal. Be ready to describe it. See you.

 THEME: Customs and Traditions of English speaking countries and Ukraine.
 LEVEL: Per-intermediate
OBJECTIVES:  pupils will:
-         learn new words;
-         develop their communicating skills,
-         learn about Customs and Traditions of English speaking countries and Ukraine.
-         revise the gerund and infinitive;
-         practise to work in pairs and in a group
SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS: computer, Power Point Presentations, grammar cards, hand outs, reading cards.

1,2.  T:  Good morning dear students. I’m glad to see you. Today you have an unusual lesson. We are going to speak about traditions and customs of English speaking countries and Ukraine. Besides, we are going to revise Gerund and Infinitive and do some exercises. So, let’s start our work.
3. T: Every nation and every country has its own traditions and customs. Traditions make a nation special. We can’t imagine any nation without its traditions and customs. Traditions of every nation are closely connected with its holidays.
So, let’s do our first task. Do you like riddles? I think you do. So, let’s try to guess what holiday is in the picture? When is it celebrated?

Let’s work in a chain! (Слайди з символами свят. Учні відгадують які свята на слайді)
T: And what is your favorite holiday? Why do you like it the most?  
4. T: Some of our students have prepared the presentations. Let’s start with customs and traditions of English speaking countries. Ann, you can start, please come to the blackboard.
T: Dear friends, please listen to it very carefully. In a few minutes, you are going to answer the questions.
T: Please answer the questions:
а). When does the Changing of the Guard happen? (The Changing of the Guard happens every day at 11.30.)
b). When was the first Christmas card produced? (It was produced in 1843 by Henry Cole.)
с). Why do people put mistletoe over a door? (People believe that Mistletoe brings good luck.)
d). What is a symbol of Thanksgiving Day? (A symbol of Thanksgiving Day is a turkey.)
T: Thank you for your answers. And now we are going to listen to the presentation “Customs and traditions of Ukraine”. Please be very careful. In a few minutes you’ll do some tasks and make the dialogues. Jane, you can start with your presentation. Please come to the blackboard.
T: Let’s work in a group. I’ll give you some words; please put them in the right order to make a sentence.

1.     Traditions are like the heart of every nation.
2.     Traditions of Ukraine are closely connected with its cuisine.
3.     Ukrainian cuisine is simple and complex at the same time.
4.     It is simple, because many products are grown near home and complex because almost every dish is handmade.
5.     It is hard to find the nation that would respect bread as much as Ukrainians do.
6.     Throwing away bread is equal to crime in Ukraine.
7.     So, Ukrainian cuisine is an important part of our culture.
T: Thank you. Let’s work in 2 groups. Please put these sentences in order to make a story.
T: Your next task is to make the dialogues. One of you is Ukrainian, another Englishman. Discuss the traditions of your countries. You have 3 minutes. Your time is up. Who would like to start?
6,7. T: Let’s revise grammar. Who can tell me a few words about Gerund and Infinitive? And now we are going to check your knowledge in practice. (Робота в групах). I’ll give you the mixture of verbs which are followed by Gerund or Infinitive.
